German Christmas market attack injury toll rises to 299

Twelve of those injured are foreigners or have dual citizenship, it said.

On December 20, a 50-year-old man drove his car into the Christmas market on a central square in the central German city, the capital of the state of Saxony-Anhalt.

Five people died in the attack.

The driver, a Saudi citizen only identified as Taleb A in line with Germany's strict privacy laws, had previously come to the attention of the German security authorities.

He is in custody as investigations proceed.
