Living near or visiting the Murray River means there is no shortage of great fishing spots where you can cast your rod and hopefully snag some dinner.
Along the Murray, yellowbelly (golden perch), Murray cod, bream or redfin are all there to be caught, so here are a few spots where you can reel in one of these beauties.
Torrumbarry
The Torrumbarry Weir is a well-known spot for fishing, and rightly so.
The Murray River widens and deepens at this point, meaning there is an abundance of fish swimming in the water, ready to be caught and taken home for dinner.
Murray cod are the most popular in this part of the river, with golden perch also another target.
Barmah
Barmah is another well-known spot where anglers head to to increase their fishing game.
This spot is upstream from Echuca-Moama, where the river races and narrows, and where the fish are usually waiting for their food to come home.
For patient anglers, this is a spot where silver perch, Murray cod, common carp and European perch can be caught, and usually, quite easily.
Ulupna Island
It’s a bit further out of town, but Ulupna Island is a great spot to set up shop and cast your line.
There are also some great camping spots on the island to help you make a weekend out of it and hopefully catch some fish.
Similar fish to Barmah will be found, with silver perch and Murray cod being quite common this year.
There are plenty other spots where you can cast your rod, so no matter where you set up, you should be having a lot of luck this year.
