This program goes beyond simply improving tennis skills, focusing on developing well-rounded individuals who can contribute positively to their clubs and communities.
Hayley Bennett from the Yarrawonga Lawn Tennis Club, completed the 2024 program alongside 32 other aspiring leaders from tennis clubs across the state.
The graduation ceremony was recently held at the Grace Park Hawthorn Club in Melbourne. Sam Condon, the program manager from Tennis Victoria said he was very proud of the 2024 group of future leaders and is looking forward to seeing the continued benefits each participant brings to their clubs.
The future leader’s program has been running since 2001 with the latest group bringing the number of participants to over 600.
Tennis Victoria estimate this has provided over 24,000 hours of volunteering effort into tennis clubs throughout Victoria.
Hayley is the most recent participant from Yarrawonga Lawn Tennis Club.
"I really enjoyed the program and would recommend it to anyone who is interested in improving the local tennis community,“ she said.
Being involved in Future Leaders also led to spending a week at the Australian Open looking after young Hot Shots kids and playing tennis with them on Rod Laver Arena."
The 2025 program will kick off in the September school holidays with a three-day camp in Melbourne.
Anyone in years 9, 10 or 11 who is interested can find further details on the Tennis Victoria website. With the success of Hayley's involvement, the Yarrawonga Lawn Tennis Club will be looking to support another young tennis player to get involved again this year.
