“Come down and check out the club facilities. Bring the kids down for a hit,” encourages club president Greg Filliponi.
“We have four synthetic courts and four grass courts, with santa anna couch grass put down last year. Feedback from players about the courts in our big Easter tournament last year was very good.”
At a meeting on Tuesday last week, it was decided Section 3 would play primarily Friday evenings, with four player teams of any gender – a change from the six-layer team concept of three female and three male players.
“If it gets to say 40 degrees and players agree to play Saturday morning instead of the Friday evening they can – it’s to be a flexible arrangement,” Mr Filliponi explained.
Sections 1 and 2 will play Saturday afternoon, teams consisting of four players, mixed gender but must include one female player.
Other team in the North East Regional Tennis Association (NERTA) include Wahgunyah, Chiltern, Wangaratta, Wooragee, Boorhaman and Everton.
There is a team-based junior competition on Saturday mornings and also a training/coaching session, by John Patzl, on Monday afternoons for juniors wanting to learn the game.
There is also a Wednesday twilight social competition. Enter a team of four players or put your name down and be put in a team. A barbecue and drinks follow your last game!
