Get the microphone recorder, media pass and tennis stars ready because a junior Shepparton hotshot reporter is about to make the Australian Open his own.
Bourchier St Primary School student Jimmy Morrison made News headlines in late 2024 after he wrote an email to Tennis Australia pleading for more development programs in the Goulburn Valley.
His virtual letter struck a chord at Tennis Australia and two representatives swiftly drove out to surprise Morrison at his school with the men’s and women’s Australian Open trophies.
The day was a memorable one for Morrison, but his rewards for his dedication to the sport haven’t stopped there.
This summer the young tennis lover will ply his trade as a junior sports journalist at the Australian Open as part of Tennis Australia’s Hot Shots Tennis Day on January 16.
Morrison will have the opportunity to ask the likes of tennis legend Novak Djoković and women’s number one Aryna Sabalenka, what makes them tick and their tips for forehand power.
Or perhaps Morrison will remain true to his nature and simply invite them up for a game at Shepparton Lawn Tennis Club.
Morrison’s inspiring passion for tennis and willingness to demand more opportunities for junior tennis lovers in Shepparton has given him the golden ticket to one of Australia’s biggest sporting events.
Who knows whether the young gun’s future lays out on the court serving aces or perhaps holding the microphone acing questions.
What is clear is that Morrison has already got one foot planted firmly into the world of the sport he loves — and all before he begins Year 5 in a few weeks.
