The hosting Lions entered the round 11 contest as heavy favourites and did not disappoint, running out 58-31 victors.
Fluid attacking combinations between Rosie O’Sullivan, Ally Black and playing coach Ellie Fuhrmeister were easy on the eye, leaving the latter largely impressed at the final hooter.
“It was a really good game. I think it was probably one of our more consistent games across the four quarters, which is good,” Fuhrmeister said.
“It was nice to throw some different combinations out there. We’ve got so many young girls that can play a few positions so it was a good opportunity to see how those connections work out on the court.

“Mansfield, they pick up so much ball and they really do contest each pass, so I think sometimes the score doesn’t always reflect how competitive they really are on the day.”
Seymour established dominance during the first quarter, finding itself up 15-7 by the opening break.
The Lions stormed ahead, displaying flawless connections from end to end while Mansfield’s undersized goalers struggled to convert against the height of Ruby Martin and Sarah Szczykulski.
By half-time, Seymour’s lead had blown out to 16 goals.
The third quarter was Mansfield’s best scoring-wise, but unfortunately for the travellers, that was the case for the Lions too as they piled on another 18 goals to sit comfortably ahead 47-23 with one term left.
Seymour seized the opportunity to shift the magnets in the second half, moving Eleisha Saunders off court to allow Bridie Cantwell game time while Martin had a short spell in attack towards the end.
Fuhrmeister, while paying respect to the opposition, lauded the chance to experiment with different combinations.
“We don’t take any game lightly. We’re quite a new side as well so we’re still working on our own confidence and connections,” she said.
“Every game we know we’ve got to put pressure on from the first ball.
“We’ve spoken about our starts a lot, so we’re just trying to focus on us, making sure we get a good start to a game and then move from there as to how we see fit and what combinations match up against the opposition.”
She went on to praise the likes of Black and O’Sullivan in the wake of their top-notch performances.
“Ally is such a workhorse. Even defensively she gets a hand in everywhere, so she was certainly a huge ball carrier for us today,” she said.
“I really liked Rosie O’Sullivan’s game too. She’s played for so many years now and her leadership on court is really important.
“As always, our defenders are great, but I liked the games of Ally and Rosie in attack today.”
Lastly, Furhmeister analysed the upcoming round 12 fixture against Shepparton Swans, which shapes as an eight pointer with the Swans sitting one spot below Seymour on the ladder.
“I think we played them way back and we got the win there. I’ve looked at a couple of their scorelines and they’ve been competing really well,” she said.
“We’ll just have to get a good session in and then hopefully we can be as competitive as possible against them.”
