Midweek Pennant, November 9

Division 1 were at Hill Top, with Ian Eichfuss skipping the only successful rink. Despite being down early, they finished strongly for an 11-shot win. Rob Brown’s rink was outplayed by a tough opponent and went down by 14 shots. Max Hammond’s rink led well early, but faded after the break, going down by nine. Seymour will be looking to turn the tables in the return match at home.

Maureen Prudden confirmed once again that she is the best bowler in that household by a fair margin, overcoming a slow start to win by 11. The biggest win went to the all-female Jenny Kreemers rink, who dropped only two of the last 14 ends for a crushing 25-shot victory.

Division 4 went up the road for the local derby at VRI. Beating VRI’s only midweek team was going to be a tough ask and we went down by nine overall. Vin Hall’s rink were behind early but fought back to be only four down after 17, before eventually going down by 14. Di Staples’ rink was down by as much as 10, before responding strongly. Dropping four on the penultimate end finished the comeback, and they went down by five. Dale Sellick’s rink salvaged some points for the day. After losing four of the first five ends and being down by eight, they dominated thereafter, winning by 10.

Weekend Pennant, November 11
Seymour bowlers embraced Saturday’s wintry conditions, with all three teams successful.
Division 3 hosted Shepparton Golf Bowls Club and the visitors struggled to adapt to the synthetic green and conditions. Seymour won all four rinks comprehensively for a percentage booster. Reliable sources indicated that the leads and seconds did a lot of the heavy lifting, taking pressure off the skips. Special mention to Graeme Flint’s rink who won 21 of 25 ends.

Division 4 travelled to Tatura for their match against Hill Top and came away with a six-shot win. Good wins to the Wendy Hutton and Garry Broderick rinks, while Klein salvaged a draw. In fact, the only losing rink across the whole club on Saturday was Jan Wesselman’s rink. What went wrong? Were they basking in last week’s press coverage? Who knows, but we are confident they will bounce back.

Division 5 hosted Dookie who took maximum points back home with them, 14-68 to Avenel 0-36.
