After its last meeting on January 3, the course won’t run another race until April 19 before it hosts four more race meetings between then and July 22.
Seymour Racing Club chief executive Chris Martin said that while the club would love to host race meetings at every possible opportunity, it was important to do this work to help set the track up for the rest of the year.
“This scheduled work is critical in allowing our track to continue supporting our local trainers and fantastic race meets,” he said.
“Our great crew have been hard at work and the turf is going to be looking sensational for the rest of the season.
“All the work being undertaken will ensure the track drains well, which is important given the wet weather we’re experiencing and absorbs the nutrients required to keep it healthy.“
The racecourse has received various treatments including coring of the track, scarifying, top dressing, verti draining and fertilisation, while the running rail will be replaced over the course of next month.
After floods severely affected the club’s 2023 racing schedule and cost the organisation $130,000 in repairs, Martin said it was much more prepared against potential flooding this time around.
“We’ve learned some great lessons since the October 2022 floods in terms of how we manage these events,” he said.
“We’ve been very proactive following the flooding out here earlier in the month and are delighted that the track has not really been impacted.
“Our staff are right on top of things and have been able to focus on the scheduled maintenance to get us up and ready for April 19.”
Tickets for the next race meeting in April will be released soon.
