The Seymour District Cricket season is back, and the Seymour Cricket Club is steaming in off a long run-up.
Jason Brown, president of the Seymour Cricket Club, can not wait for one of the oldest clubs in the region to take to the field for another season.
“The Seymour Cricket Club was established in 1859 and has a long, proud history,” Brown said.
“This history is displayed throughout the clubrooms with memorabilia of past teams and players along with items used and worn over the many decades.
“The cricket oval’s bowling green-like outfield is a pleasure to play on.
“With the installation of new turf on our four-pitch wicket square, the Chittick Park Oval will remain one of the premier ovals in the district.”
Seymour is a club that prides itself in working hard on the field and having fun off it.
The club is looking to step up a notch on the field this year.
The appointment of Brown as the batting coach and Braidon Horkings as the bowling coach will make them a fierce club to face.
Focused training sessions on individual skills and techniques are another way the club aims to improve.
Horkings will return to the A-grade side as the opening bowler, and former captain Simon Van Duinen will also be back in the mix.
These players, among others, have the club excited about what can be achieved this season.
In addition to the two senior sides, the club will be running Woolworths Blasters for five-to-nine-year-olds.
The club will also field an under-13 team coached by Damian Murphy.
