But while the Blasters had previously occupied top spot given they had played an extra game over the likes of Wodonga below them, the weekend saw all teams draw level on games played, meaning Seymour is now undeniably the top team in the competition so far.
Having enjoyed a run of home games in recent weeks, the Blasters were on the road on Saturday evening, travelling to take on the Eagles at Alex Pullin Stadium, and while the venue would be different to their round five clash, the outcome would not be.
Seymour jumped out to a 20-10 lead by the end of the first term. William Stewart looked to be in fine touch once again, pouring in 12 points himself in the opening quarter, and when Jesse Brock did the same in the second term, the question became not who would win, but rather by how much, as the visitors raced to a 50-27 advantage at the half.
The margin only grew after the teams emerged from the huddles in the third quarter, with Griffin Rowe and Thomas O’Connor both scoring consistently throughout the night, helping extend the lead to 30 points at the final break.
A strong finish to the game saw the Blasters put up 28 points in the final term, their second largest haul for the evening, as they cruised to a 37-point win and with it, top spot on the ladder.
Brock finished as the game’s leading scorer with 27, while Stewart wasn’t far behind with 25, and both Rowe and O’Connor made it to double digits also with 16 and 12 points, respectively.
Just three matches remain in the regular season for the Blasters, including a final round clash against Wodonga, which remains the only side to have beaten Seymour this season.
Next week will see the Blasters back at home, however, as they host Echuca at Seymour Sports and Aquatic Centre on Saturday evening.
