Kevin Bartlett led the charge from a handicap of 20 minutes. He was followed by the 15min, 11min, 5min and scratch groups.
Riding into some good form was Shayne Kirby who was given what turned out to be a generous start from the 5minute group.
Kirby led his group, overtaking most of the field with 15km to go which left Brian Inness (15min) and Ian Porter (15min) yet to be caught.
Further back, the scratch group was hampered with the withdrawal of Darryl O’Keefe.
On the approach to Schoolhouse hill, Inness and Porter were caught at the worst possible time as the road went upwards.
This was where Kirby showed the training he has been putting in was paying off as he rode clear and went on to an easy win ahead of Christy Rilen (5min), and Bret Bender 3rd (11min).
Just over 1 minute behind was Michael Thomson (scr) who took fastest time in 1:13.55.
●Racing this week starts from Burgess Signs at 2pm.
