Shepparton North blasted its way to a comprehensive round one win, easily accounting for Central Park 9-54 to 0-20.
North’s Clark Pettigrew, Dane Baldi and Dean Pritchett looked more than comfortable on the court in the first game back, with all three combining to cruise to wins in the first three rubbers.
Louise Dwyer, Helen Jackson and Georgie Moore then combined in their doubles rubbers to steer their side to a resounding win.
Meanwhile, Kialla Park Old Students got among the round one winners with a 6-43 to 3-42 win over Karramomus.
Aaron Plant, Sam Wieland and Kieran Moon were the victors in their first three rubbers, despite strong resistance from Karramomus’ John Hunter Gagiano, Shane Harrington and Guy Duncan.
Fiona Wieland and Sally Plant then secured a 6-5 win, but Lisa Bell, Romney Cresswell and Tamara Corrigan ensured their side wouldn’t go down without a fight as they went on to clinch 6-3 and 6-1 wins in their respective rubbers.
But an Aaron and Sally Plant combination with their healthy 6-2 win over Gagiano and Bell would help get Old Students over the line.
McEwen Reserve had the bye.
Shepparton North took the points in the A1-A2 division with a 6-46 to 3-28 triumph over Karramomus.
Paula Montgomery, Rebecca Lovell, Melinda Hann and Travis Cooper were some of the North players that starred in the win.
McEwen Reserve Red took the points after St Brendan’s was forced to forfeit, while the remaining A1-A2 matches were unable to go ahead.
In A3 action, a full complement of games got the green light, with Central Park, St Andrew’s and Shepparton North Red taking the points in the season opener.
