The first game of the season saw familiar faces and new faces put on the blue and white dress and it was fantastic to see Em Laracy back at her home club.
The game started with high intensity and our girls worked well to lead into half-time nine goals up with Lou Madden on 23 goals from 24 attempts.
The start of the third quarter saw the Wang Magpies come out strong making our defence end work hard for every ball.
Going into the last quarter there was only a six-goal difference with the girls keeping their composure to win by one goal.
Gabe Mcrae (Club 1) – had a solid first game as a Roo. She ran the midcourt working well with both Tamir and Leah.
Louise Madden (Health Hub) – held firm in the ring with her accuracy being 9 per cent for the game.
Emily Laracy (Canteen) applied the defensive pressure, rebounded well and worked well in the goal circle with Soph.
B Grade

B Grade Roos got off to a great start against the reigning premiers.
They had great intensity in both attack and defence shutting down passages of play from the strong Magpies outfit.
The defensive circle put in a mountain of work to disrupt the accurate shooters.
The scoreline did not reflect how well the girls played. The team will continue to work on those areas that fell away during the game. Great signs from a first game together.
Jade Lane (Club 1) - WD and relieved Audrey at GD for a well-earned break, was awarded best on court for her ability to shut down her WA and cause turnover ball.
Kelsea Bullivant (Essential Beauty) for her fantastic run through C show casing her speed, athleticism and feeding ability into the goalers.
Courtney Haigh (Cantenn) for her fantastic work behind the ball and gaining several interruptions to the Magpies fast delivery of balls to the goalers.
C Grade

The Roos C Grade team was a new lineup for Round 1 with only three players from last season.
Coming up against last season’s premiership team in the Wang Pies, there were lots of nerves and the warm autumn afternoon was going to make the game a challenging one.
The team worked so well together adjusting to multiple subs in every quarter to give everyone a rest and fresh legs for the team.
After an uncertain start in the first quarter, C Grade came back strong in the second and third quarters outscoring the premiership team.
The last quarter was hard fought and the girls were in front to the last few minutes. It was disappointing for them all to not get the win but an absolute confidence booster as they head into the season.
Jemma Smith (Club1) was once again an amazing burst of energy and drive in the centre court. She is able to switch centre-court roles with ease and is a leader on the court.
Sophie Kennedy (Thrive wellness) the team’s new co-captain with Chelsea Parker was seamless in transitioning between GA & WA she provided so much drive in the attack end.
Lily Kennedy (Canteen) was a fantastic GK working so well with Charlotte Bott who gave everything in her tank. Lily was awesome at rebounding and blocking the shooter.

The team made their way to Wangaratta on Saturday, it was an impressive performance full of teamwork and clear signs that training is paying off.
The girls initiated plays they have been working on and showed great determination throughout the match.
Sienna Sampson (Origin Clothing) had an outstanding game, starting off in the defence circle and later switching into the shooting circle. She added some really strong movement in the ring and adapted well between both ends of the court.
Bella Amery (Dress Hire) was also one of our standouts, bringing relentless pressure in WD. She made it tough for Wang to feed into the circle, with multiple intercept attempts and fantastic hands-over pressure all the way down the court.
Charlotte Broad (Canteen) came on into WA and made an instant impact with her strong drives and positive communication. She did a great job applying what the team has practiced at training, especially with her feeds and vision.
Overall, a solid start to the season with lots to build on. Looking forward to working on a few areas this week and coming out stronger in the next game.

The girls played a hard-fought game against strong opposition.
Despite the final score, the Roos continued to experiment with new combinations, proving plenty of versatility within the team.
Mille Eales (Docs) stood out with her strength and determination, consistently contesting every play and earning herself MVP by the opposition coach.
Maddison Ryan (Sportspower) showed reliability and composure throughout the midcourt.
Lillyana Murray-Wright (Canteen) proved to be a threat in both the shooting and defensive rings.
The Roo netball girls have dedicated themselves during the off season to prepare for a great 2025 season ahead.
The Roo family is so excited to have our clubrooms back, especially for our first home game of the season this coming Easter weekend.
The girls would like to thank the CFNC Board and all the volunteers who have worked tirelessly to have the clubrooms ready.
