A first-ever away day beckoned for the Lakers on Sunday, but the unfamiliar territory of Victoria Park was no issue for the side.
Nagambie flexed its muscles against Echuca White, chasing down the opposition’s total of 59 in 10.4 overs.
Captain Kait Carracher continued her fiery return to the cricket pitch, hitting 29 runs off 26 balls, including five fours.
The Lakers’ victory lifts them to second on the table, only behind Mooroopna on quotient.
Echuca won the toss and decided to bat first.
Despite the fast scoring of Jordan Dalziel, the fall of Madeline Davy for a duck set the cat among the pigeons.
Dalziel was run out at the start of the third over and began a chain reaction of Echuca players being caught between the creases.
Mia Athurson and Ariel How were both run out in the fourth over, and Caitlin McKee was the fourth player in a row to be caught between creases in the 14th over.
Olivia Davy and Holly Smith held down the fort for Echuca White as both players retired not out.
Sarah Villinger took the sixth and final wicket for the Lakers as Alicia Nicol caught Brodie Goodsell on a duck.
After 20 overs, Echuca White had 59 runs on the board, well within Nagambies’ reach.
The Lakers’ innings got off to a shaky start as Oliva Davy bowled Chelsea Kennedy for a duck.
The poor start continued as Shae Merrifield lost track of her stumps and Arthurson cleaned them up.
At 2-4, Carracher entered the game.
Her partnership with third drop Kelsey Abbott was the game’s most profitable.
Abbott hit 22 runs off 30 balls, while Carracher managed 29 off 26.
As Abbott retired not out, Sandy Ezard set up at the crease, but Nagambie was already in the driving seat.
Carracher hit the winning runs before Ezard could get a run on the board.
The Nagambie women are back on home turf this weekend when they take on BLU on Sunday morning at Nagambie Recreation Reserve.
