The teenage Lakers saluted in last weekend’s Cricket Shepparton competition with a stunning eight-wicket victory over Karramomus.
A phenomenal all-round effort from the juniors delivered victory at Nagambie Recreation Reserve on Sunday morning.
All but two bowlers collected a scalp in a stunning bowling display that helped dismiss Karra for 51 runs.
Flynn Bush was the standout with 2-6 from 2.2 overs.
In the run chase, two impressive unbeaten knocks from Archy Harrison (15 not out) and Ryan Ezard (13 not out) saw Nagambie cruise to victory.
Meanwhile, in the senior grades, Nagambie’s A-grade season came to a close following its 25-run loss to Old Students.
Nagambie, needing a win and bonus point if it was to have any hope of reaching finals, went about its run chase with an attacking mindset after the Students posted a competitive score of 152.
Skipper Mark Nolan (21 runs) and Jono Moore (24) made run-a-ball knocks before Old Students’ two standout bowlers entered the fray.
Spin wiz Liam Callegari trapped Moore LBW, the first of his four wickets, while McCabe dismissed Nolan a short while later.
The Lakers suffered a mini-collapse following Nolan’s departure as Callegari and his captain went to work.
Nagambie found itself 7-96, but with a brave Tyrone Muir at the crease a faint chance of securing victory was still alive.
That was until McCabe knocked over his castle for 36 runs and all but secured the visitors’ stunning victory.
Nagambie’s A-grade outfit may have missed out on booking a finals appearance, but the club’s B-grade unit didn’t suffer the same fate.
In a tense and nervous round 14 encounter against Old Students, a side that was hunting sixth spot, Nagambie was able to prevail by 33 runs which rubber-stamped a date in finals action.
Nagambie’s top-order starred with the bat and reached the half-century mark, with Dale Short the standout with 69 off 82 deliveries.
Brad Smith and Blair Taylor-Lloyd chipped in with 59 and 50 not out respectively as Nagambie reached 2-232.
The Lakers’ James Brook was phenomenal with ball in hand and notched 5-30.
