Likely sensing they were heavy favourites the Cats unsurprisingly elected to bat and proceeded to take the Bakery side all over Mooroopna Recreation Reserve, dominating bowlers from start to finish.
Wrapping up its 25 overs at 2-209, Mooroopna bettered the previous high score in GMC women’s season 2023-24 ― its own effort of 143 in a round three win over Echuca White ― by almost 50 per cent.
Nathalia was brave with the bat; its eventual reply of 2-94 would have been enough to win three of the weekend’s other four games.
There was simply no answer for Mooroopna’s offensive supremacy, though, as an unbeaten Gemma Boyd half-century (seven fours) helped the Cats storm on powerful early knocks from Amani Issell and Ebony Sleeth.
Following Shepparton United’s triumph over Nagambie Sunday, Mooroopna finds itself the lone unbeaten side.
With a 5-0 record and factoring in two byes, the Cats now sit second behind the 6-1 United, with the Lakers’ first defeat sending them all the way to fourth as the race tightens.
Mooroopna will once again be firm favourite to continue this brilliant inaugural run next weekend away to Rochester (1-5), while Nathalia (2-5) meets a fellow two-win outfit in Bamawm-Lockington United (2-1-3).
