Making their first foray into the competition since returning, Moama hit the ground running with a huge win over the Redbacks at Kyabram Recreation Reserve.
Ky won the toss and sent the visitor in to bat, hoping to rattle the Moama batters in their opening inaugural innings.
Things started promisingly for the Redbacks as Eliza Linehan claimed the wicket of Jada Bover in the third over, Moama starting at 1-5.
The introduction of Delany Laffy to the crease, joining remaining opener Olivia Davy, brought composure to the Moama innings, and the pair batted out a lengthy stand for the second wicket.
Both batters would end up reaching the 30-ball limit and retire unbeaten, Davy on 16 and Laffy on 27.
After Davy left the middle, the Redbacks enjoyed a little joy, Lauren Renden ending Jordan Dalziel’s stint after just two balls.
Isla Laffy joined Delaney briefly before working with Mia Arthurson to push the total past 100, Isla retiring in the last over as Moama posted 2-115 from its 20 overs.
Eliza Linehan (1-8) was economical after making the early breakthrough, while mirror image 27s from Delany and Isla Laffy were the standout batting marks.
Kyabram’s run chase started disastrously, with two wickets falling in the opening over, and things didn't improve much as time went on.
After starring with the bat, Isla Laffy sent Melissa Parsons and Emma Roberts packing in the first over, before returning with a hat-trick to open her second, making it four for the over with another wicket three balls later.
The Redbacks were reeling at 7-2, with no batter yet to face more than three deliveries.
Becky Bruce provided some resistance for Kyabram, facing up to 25 deliveries for a hard-fought three, but Kyabram’s innings was beyond repair, the side all out for just 10.
Isla Laffy’s 6-0 in two overs is a tough statistic to comprehend, while Sadie Laffy (2-3), Mia Arthurson (1-3) and Olivia Davy (1-1) were the other wicket-takers.
Echuca vs Nathalia
Continued its strong early form, Echuca comfortably chased down Nathalia to win by eight wickets.
The home side elected to bat first at Nathalia Showgrounds, but Chloe Moyle struck for Echuca almost immediately, dismissing Taylor Hills with the fifth ball of the innings.
Captain Jessica Cox pressed Echuca’s advantage, striking three times in two overs to have Nathalia in all sorts at 4-6.
Abby Favaro and Evie Hawks provided some stability to their side’s innings, the pair adding 20 before Hawks departed for 7.
Favaro fell shortly after for an innings’ best 11, and after a resilient stay at the crease from Jessica Daniel and Courtney Cunningham Nathalia finished its innings all out for 66.
Cox’s 3-3, including three maidens, topped the bowling charts for Echuca, while Emma Moyle (3-16) also took three wickets.
Echuca started its run chase on the back foot, losing Maisy Byrne second ball, but remaining opener Chloe Moyle and Cox proved much harder to shift.
The two went at a run a ball to quickly push towards the target, Moyle batting out her 30 balls for a score of 29, while Cox hit three fours on her way to 19 from 17.
After both had departed, Sophie Good and Leanne Carty had little trouble hunting down the remaining runs as Echuca reached a winning 2-67 in 10.4 overs.
Evie Hawks (1-10) and Jessica Daniel (1-11) made the two breakthroughs for Nathalia.
BLU vs Cooma
Bamawm-Lockington United put in a strong performance against Cooma in round two of Goulburn Murray Cricket’s women’s competition, but was eventually run down on Sunday.
The Lions, choosing to bat first at Cooma Recreation Reserve, set a modest but defendable total of 8-71 from their 20 overs at the crease.
Ruby Brentnall held the BLU innings together, scoring 22 from 30 as teammates fell around her before being forced to retire not out.
Cathy Dervish bowled well for Cooma, taking 3-10, while Sienna Brennan (2-8) picked up two wickets.
BLU was well in the game at times during the Cooma run chase, with Amy Fitzgerald striking early to remove Dervish at the top of the order.
Aside from Ruby Harman (16 not out), no Cooma batter progressed into double figures, although five of the eight who faced up made runs.
Eventually, BLU’s total proved to be marginally short, with Cooma hitting 6-75 at the 16.2 over mark.
Fitzgerald (3-16) was the pick of the BLU bowlers, while Bree Styles also snared a wicket.
In other results, Shepparton took down Katamatite by 70 runs, and Mooroopna had a nine-wicket win over Nagambie, and Rochester had the bye.
Next week’s fixtures see Moama away to Shepparton, Echuca host Kyabram, BLU take on Nathalia, Rochester play Katamatite, and Nagambie visit Cooma, while Mooroopna have the bye.
