St Augustine’s Junior Football Club and Kyabram Junior Football Club have agreed to the merger and are currently in the throes of fine-tuning the marriage.
The united clubs will be known as Kyabram Junior Bombers Football Club.
Both have been standalone clubs for many years with St Augustine’s fielding junior teams for 59 years.
St Augustine’s president Brenton Sheppard said getting the two clubs under the one umbrella was a natural and welcome progression and as one hub would have many benefits.
‘’There will be around 250 young players involved from under-9s level through to under-16 age groups,’’ Sheppard said.
Sheppard also noted there was plenty of work to be done to finalise the merger and determining which district junior competitions the Ky teams would compete in.
There is a Campaspe division and a Shepparton division for junior sides under the administration of AFL Goulburn Murray, so there are options for the Ky club as to which comps it will field teams in.
Sheppard said the new club would be seeking sponsorships and working hard to make the merger a success which he was confident it would be.
Sheppard also urged interested parties to keep abreast of the merger process in the Free Press and on social media.

Impressive best of best
By Gus Underwood
St Augustine’s Junior Football Club named its best team when it celebrated its 50th birthday in 2105.
And it certainly turned some heads.
The reunion coincided with the launch of a booklet written by the late Kyabram sports historian Trevor Stone on St Augustine’s Junior Football Club.
It certainly was an impressive side, containing no fewer than five players — Garry Lyon, Shane Fitzsimmons, Maurice Wingate, Daryl Bourke and Riley Dunn — who went on to play AFL football.
Many of the players became stars for Kyabram senior teams after their junior days with the Saints.
The Saints’ best of the best team was as follows:
Backs: Brendan Flanagan, Brad Mangan, Peter Flanagan
Half-backs: Nathan Beck, Shane Fitzsimmons, Tony McDonell.
Centres: Andrew Trimby, Maurie Wingate, Nick Quirk
Half-forwards: Chris Atkins, Garry Lyon (capt), Patrick Wearden
Forwards: Glen Macdermid, Riley Dunn, Les Dillon
Followers: John Cortese, Daryl Bourke, Josh Finn
Interchange: Mark Fitzsimmons, Brendan Ryan, Mick Portia, Luke Morris
Coach: Kevin Boyle
