Having won the toss on day one and elected to bat, the Eagles powered to a total of 9-192 off the back of big contributions from opener Jake Wright (41), number three Benjamin Bryant (44) and number five Ollie Bryant (38).
With 193 set for victory, Eastern Hill looked to make early inroads on Saturday, however Wallan openers Matthew Clayton and Spencer Whittingham were stone walls in defence, denying any chance of an early wicket as they set themselves for the chase.
It took until the 21st over for Daniel O’Sullivan to make the first breakthrough, bowling Whittingham (22), and a further nine overs before Tim Rudd-Schmidt made the second, removing Clayton (32), as Wallan enjoyed the early moment.
While the first 30 overs went Wallan’s way, the next 30 were owned by the Eagles, as Benjamin Bryant got to work tearing through Wallan’s middle order.
Bowling 11 overs, five of which were maidens, Bryant conceded just 20 runs while taking five wickets, turning the game on its head and giving his side the upper hand as it raced towards victory.
O’Sullivan and Rudd-Schmidt each chipped in with another wicket to finish with figures of 2-50 and 2-27 respectively, as Wallan collapsed to be all out for 149 from 68.1 overs.
The race for the minor premiership has become even tighter following the Eagles’ win, as while they remain second behind Wallan, they are now level on points with just three rounds remaining before finals.
The Eagles will travel to Diggers Rest Recreation Reserve to take on Diggers Rest for the first day of a two-day clash on Saturday, with their opponents currently in a battle for fourth spot on the ladder.
