Two goals to Colette Suter got the side across the line, with the win Tatura’s first in the newly-formed women’s League Two.
The Ibises controlled the game throughout the contest, scoring a goal in each half to secure all the points.
Tatura coach Damian Rosella was excited about the result.
“It was great to get a first-up win, the girls played really well so they deserved to win anyway so I thought they did really good,” Rosella said.
“They (the team) were rapt, absolutely rapt, they were happy to sing the song, they haven’t sang it in a while so it was good to get a win and sing the song.”
Rosella said the side played well across the match.
“I thought we were on top pretty much all the game, I thought we controlled the game pretty well,” he said.
“We scored a goal, I think, halfway through the first half and then scored the second with maybe 15 minutes to go in the second half so we probably sealed the win then.”
The win gives the Ibises a massive amount of confidence going into a new season, with a round one win always a good platform to build on.
It was also a big game for Rosella, with the match his first in charge of the side.
Nervous going into the contest, Rosella was happy the team managed to get across the line.
“You do get nervous when you’re coaching your first game and you sort of don’t know the girls as well but it was all right to get the win first up,” he said.
Goal scorer Suter was one of the standout performers for Tatura, while Madison Forte also played well in the midfield.
“That’s where the game had to be won and they stepped up and we got the three points, a great start to the year,” Rosella said.
For the Goulburn Valley’s other Central Victorian League women’s side it was a different story, with Shepparton United falling 10-0 to Strathfieldsaye Colts United in League One.
United was up against it from the get go, with two goals inside the first 10 minutes putting the side behind.
There was no coming back from there, with the Colts running out dominant victors.
