The Ibises did things the hard way at Bendigo’s Epsom Huntly Recreation Reserve, coming from a goal down to pick up a 2-1 win.
Facing off with season-long rival Kyenton, the Ibises’ were well aware of what was at stake.
After falling to District earlier this year in the League Cup final, the side knew it needed to be at its best, however a horror start put it on the back foot.
An early penalty to Kyneton’s Kimberley Dickins put District a goal up, with the Ibises equalising on the cusp of half-time thanks to Colette Suter.
In the second half it would be Suter again who would be the difference, with the talent converting a penalty to go 2-1 up.
This was how the score remained, with the Ibises securing a famous victory.
Speaking after the game Tatura coach Damien Rosella said his girls played well in difficult conditions.
“We knew it was going to be a tough game, the conditions didn’t help, but we still played soccer,” Rosella said.
“We controlled the ball and we ended up controlling the game.”
Rosella said his side kept its head up after going a goal down and when the opposition grew tired, the Ibises pounced.
“I told the girls at half-time that if we keep pushing we’ll end up winning the game and that’s exactly what happened,” he said.
“We ended up getting a penalty and we converted through Colette (Suter) and the rest is history.
"We knew it was going to be upsetting if we lost because we went through it in the cup final and they didn’t want to go through that again.
“It’s an amazing feeling."
The result caps an incredible season from Tatura’s women, with the Super Cup final adding to the league premiership.
