A hard-fought 16-point triumph over Myrtleford on its home deck on Saturday, before an imposing 24-point win over Mansfield on Sunday ensured Wally Amstrong’s charges sit at 3-0 after two rounds.
“So far so good, three wins and all you can do is win,” coach Armstrong said of his side’s start to the campaign.
“We had a tight game first up, and then on the weekend it was a pretty tight game Saturday night at Myrtleford, they are always a tough team to play.
“We just kept plugging away and eventually after a slow start we got control of the game and fought it out.
“Then we backed it up on Sunday against Mansfield, both teams were missing players Saturday night and only had eight, it was a real solid game.“
Armstrong said early signs this season are positive; a number of new faces have joined the ranks this year, adding to the Breakers’ solid nucleus which has been integral to its success in recent years.
Tom Downie comes into the team, adding height and experience, while young guards Jordan Munro, Kyle Termorshuizen and Aaron Fry provide versatility.
“We’ve got some improvement in us and things we know we need to fix, but all three games we’ve shown we’ve got scoring power,” he said.
“We’ve added to our depth off our bench which is a pretty important thing.
“Tom a good player with good height and a good lot of experience ... Jordan, Aaron and Kyle give us that depth.
“And Beksy’s (Sam Beks) a very, very good player, having been involved with the Gators this year over there I got to him know over there, he’s a constant scorer and hell of a rebounder, his experience is great.”
The Breakers head to Wangaratta on Sunday for a round four match-up with the Warriors, before returning home in round five to face Wodonga Wolves.
