In hot and stifling conditions at Wangaratta, Seymour was able to dictate proceedings thanks to some brilliant individual efforts from Tyler Best (24 points) and Keenan Gorski (23) to chalk up an emphatic round 14 triumph.
The Blasters got the early jump on the hosts with a 29 to 14 opening term and never looked like coughing up the lead for the remainder of the contest and cruised to a 114-64 win.
Seymour now enters the penultimate round of the CBL season locked in top spot.
Seymour Blasters’ gun talent Robbie Sartori said he was pleased his outfit was able to tick off a few things they had been working on in recent weeks.
“It was a very, very hot game, it was nice to have a full squad out there. We did what went out to achieve and we were able to get some good game time into our roster and iron out a few defensive issues.
“We’re trying to get our rotations right; we really made a focus on our defensive rotations because we know that will be important in the next couple of tough ones coming up and come finals.”
Seymour’s convincing performance on Sunday is the perfect tune-up ahead of this weekend’s important double-header clash against Wodonga on Saturday night and Benalla on Sunday.
The match against the Breakers, on the road at Benalla, is a top-of-the-table clash and one that Sartori expects will be a “tough test”.
“We’ve built up a bit of a rivalry with them over the years,” he said.
“We know what to expect and it’s the same for them as well — we all know each other’s game really well.
“The last time we played they were missing a few and we had a few out so I wouldn’t go reading too much into that game. It won’t be the same this time around.
“They’re really well-drilled and we go up knowing that this will be a hard match and we know we have to be at our best.”
Meanwhile, the Seymour Blasters women’s outfit walked away with a 16-point win on Sunday over Wangaratta.
The Blasters, whose previous round match was abandoned due to a serious injury to an opposition player, were far too strong for the Warriors and held on for a 66-50 triumph.
Tahya Watkins was the clear standout for the Blasters as she registered a whopping 32 points in a sublime shooting game.
Kasey Lennox provided support with 10 points, while the rest of the squad chipped in with solid contribution.
The win at the weekend keeps Seymour locked in second spot on the North-East women’s ladder.
A mouth-watering top-of-the-table clash against Wodonga awaits the Blasters this Saturday night at 5.30pm ahead of the men’s match.
