While the Blasters completed a drubbing of winless Mansfield by 72 points last weekend, it was a much tougher Albury side they faced in round six, with the Cougars possessing a 3-2 record heading into the contest.
But the home side showed its intent from the tip-off, with Patrick Green on fire from beyond the arc, putting up five three-pointers in the opening term to end the quarter with 15 points and his side ahead 24-18.
By half-time the margin was out to 15 points, with Seymour in control of the contest. The Blasters added 18 points for the quarter and kept the visitors to just nine, entering the long break with a 42-27 advantage.
There was no slowing down as the teams emerged from the huddle either, as the Blasters retained all of the momentum and enjoyed another fruitful quarter under the basket, once again outscoring Albury 16-10 for the term to enter the final quarter ahead 58-37.
With the game virtually done and dusted at the final break, Seymour perhaps took the foot off the gas a little, with Albury able to match the home side’s 13 points in the final term, meaning the final margin was the same 21 points as at three-quarter time.
Green was the top scorer in the match, adding another 10 points after quarter-time to finish with 25, the only Seymour player to enter double digits. Callum Stojanovic (9), Jesse Brock (8) and William Stewart (8) were the next best.
For Albury, Lachlan Thomas showed plenty to top score for his side with 12 points, while Maximillian Morton was the only other player to surpass double digits with 11 points.
The win ensures Seymour maintains its hold on top spot, at least for the time being, with a 5-1 record after six games, although the unbeaten Wodonga lurks in second with a 5-0 record and a game in hand.
Seymour will hit the road this Saturday, travelling to Alex Pullin Stadium in Mansfield to once again take on the Eagles, a contest the Blasters should once again dominate if they have full availability.
