Football fans from across the Goulburn Valley will get an opportunity to see the AFL’s ultimate prize later this month, with the premiership cup set to make its way to Shepparton ahead of grand final day.
As part of the nationwide 2022 Toyota AFL Premiership Cup tour, Shepparton will host the esteemed piece of silverware on Wednesday, September 14 with the location of the event still to be determined.
The AFL announced on Monday afternoon that the 21-day tour would be the longest in its history and would visit locations in NSW, Northern Territory, Queensland and regional Victoria.
It was also revealed that 319-game Hawthorn and Melbourne champion Jordan Lewis would take the reins as premiership cup tour ambassador.
Speaking at the official launch, Lewis said it was a thrill to be involved and to bring the cup to regional areas.
“I’m honoured to be named this year’s Toyota AFL Premiership Cup Tour Ambassador and play a role in bringing one of the game’s most prestigious pieces of silverware to AFL fans around the country,” Lewis said.
“Having grown up playing football in Warrnambool and Geelong regions, I know how important Australian football is to people in regional towns and remote communities, and I’m excited to visit a few local football clubs along the way as part of the tour.”
Shepparton will be one of the last towns on the list to experience the cup, with Victorian venues making up the third week of the tour after it stops in NSW, Queensland and Northern Territory.
