The police helicopter was used to follow an allegedly stolen car from Shepparton to Benalla and back on Thursday before police swooped in and arrested four people.

Shepparton Crime Investigation unit Detective Senior Constable Paul Shortis said the white Mercedes Benz was allegedly stolen from the Melbourne suburb of Ashburton early on Monday, December 20.
It was then allegedly used in a petrol drive-off at the Caltex service station in Kialla on Wednesday, December 22, where the car was filled up with about $70 worth of fuel and the driver did not pay.
At 2.20am on Thursday, December 23, it was again allegedly used in a petrol drive-off at the Liberty service station in Shepparton where $40 worth of petrol was put in the car, Det Sen Constable Shortis said.

The car was then spotted in several spots in Shepparton later than morning, before the Police Air Wing was called in to track its path from shortly before 10am.
The helicopter kept an eye on the car as it was driven to Benalla, and then back to Shepparton via Dookie, Det Sen Constable Shortis said.
At 11.50am the car stopped in Smith St, Shepparton, and the occupants got out and ran off into Carson St.

Police enacted a pre-arranged plan and moved in to arrest the occupants.
Four Shepparton males have been arrested and were assisting police with their inquiries early that afternoon.
