SPC all empty of beans — that’s no Furphy

All gone: SPC was out of baked beans for some intrepid travellers over the weekend.

Shepparton’s been chock-a-block for the past few weeks, with the V-Line Cup, the extra-long weekend and GVL grand finals, and some tourists walked away without experiencing all Shepparton had to offer.

While some visitors who Oddie bumped into enjoyed their time in the city, savouring the incredible weather and having a walk around the lake, they didn’t come away with the one thing they really wanted: beans.

No trip to Shepparton would be compete without a trip to SPC, and the intrepid tourists made their way there — only to find the beloved producer was out of baked beans.

Calamity!

More tourists in town were wondering aloud if the word ‘furphy’ — a tall tale — had any connection to the big water cart they saw on their drive into town from Melbourne.

Oh boy, does it.

Oddie bundled them into the car and took them to the Museum of Vehicle Evolution, and moved them straight into the Furphy Museum.

Question comprehensively answered.

While they were at it, they also received a lesson on the history of the Careful Cobber and trucking in Shepparton.
