Eleven students from across the region recently had the opportunity to visit Victorian parliament, accompanied by state Member for Euroa Annabelle Cleeland. These students were recipients of the prestigious Sir Edward ‘Weary’ Dunlop award, an annual recognition organised through Ms Cleeland’s office.
The award recipients proudly represent local schools: Dustin Cocks from Avenel Primary, Lori Perry from Nagambie Primary, Brianna Maher and Asha Embling from St John’s Euroa and Estella-Rose Kipping from Euroa Primary.
The award honours students in the electorate who embody the values exemplified by the local war hero.
These values include compassion, humility, friendship, forgiveness, courage, leadership and integrity.
Ms Cleeland expressed her pride in welcoming the students to parliament, saying the future was in good hands.
“These are students who have gone through more hardship than most — yet have continued to demonstrate incredible resilience,” she said.
“Whether it be coming back from illness, participating in sports championships, growing academically, taking on school leadership positions, or just being a great friend to those in need — these kids have all done amazing things.
“Some of the award winners may still be young, but the qualities they have shown proves that our future is in good hands.”
This memorable visit offered these remarkable young individuals a rare glimpse into Victoria’s political heart, reinforcing their commitment to the values for which they’ve been honoured.
