“We all know someone who steps up in times of need, or takes time out of their day to make a positive impact on their community,” council director of sustainable development Geraldine Christou said.
Ms Christou said a nomination for the 2025 Citizenship Awards would be a wonderful way to show gratitude for the hard work of local citizens who made a difference in the community.
“These awards are a great opportunity to celebrate the efforts of remarkable community members and give them the recognition they deserve,” she said.
Award winners will be announced in January next year.
John Anderson, a fixture of the Shepparton business community, received the 2024 Citizen of the Year award.
In accepting the award, Mr Anderson said it came as a surprise.
“This is indeed a great honour, which I’ll accept with great pride and surprise because I think that as much as I appreciate it, I know that there are many, many people who justifiably would be deserving of this award,” he said.
“I’m so grateful to the people of Shepparton for the support they’ve given me, and the fantastic people I’ve been involved with along the way, and that’s all the organisations I’ve been involved in ... This is really their credit as much as mine.”
