Principal Wayne Smith is thrilled that St Mary’s is opening to an older cohort.
“Catholic education is flourishing in the fast-growing areas of Seymour and Mitchell Shire and we’re delighted to have senior secondary education returning after a 34-year absence,” he said.
“Our whole college community is excited that the high-quality, faith-based, and affordable secondary co-education option we offer families from Foundation to Year 10 will soon be available to students in Year 11 and Year 12.”
Affordability is also a focus for Mr Smith.
“The college will strive to keep school fees as affordable as possible to remain accessible to local families,” he said.
“We believe that no child should miss out on a Catholic education because of their family’s financial circumstances.”
In supporting the announcement, Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools executive director Jim Miles said MACS was pleased to offer the choice of a Catholic senior secondary education to families in the Seymour area. He was also looking forward to working closely with the college, St Mary’s Catholic Parish and the wider community to deliver the new educational pathways for students.
The plan is subject to approval from the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority.
