July 3
The Kelvin Grove Village celebrated Christmas in July, with residents coming together for a Christmas feast and an entertaining performance from John Smith.
The Lions netballers were victorious against the Shepparton Swans at Kings Park, and sat within the Goulburn Valley League’s top six.
July 10
Seymour honoured the late Fred Grimwade, a stalwart who dedicated his life to bettering the region, by officially christening the Fred Grimwade Pavilion in Kings Park.
Broadford and Kilmore-based horse trainer Hanna Powell graced the winners’ list at Seymour Racing Club after her horse Ultimate Kiss passed the post three lengths ahead of the field in race eight.
July 17
Seymour residents gathered at Goranwarrabul House to celebrate NAIDOC Week in a day that involved a celebratory parade, a smoking ceremony and free ice cream.
Seymour local Kelvin Lubek was named Trainer of the Year at the Victorian Athletic League end-of-season awards night.
July 24
Year 11 students Chloe Butterworth, from St Mary’s College, and Amber McNally, from Euroa Secondary College, returned safely from their journey along the Kokoda Trail after receiving a $6500 scholarship from state Member for Euroa Annabelle Cleeland’s initiative.
Amelia Hauser became the first female club captain in the Goulburn Murray Junior League for the Lions’ under-12 boys’ side.
July 31
Yea retiree Shirley Hodge won a $5000 prize when visiting the Chemist Discount Centre in Seymour to get her supply of probiotics.
The Seymour Football and Netball Club locked in talented players Huw Jones, Nathan Beattie and Riley Mason for the 2025 season, with each having played over 50 senior games.
August 7
Eleven students from across the region, who were the recipients of the Sir Edward ‘Weary’ Dunlop award, were granted the opportunity to visit Victorian Parliament alongside state Member for Euroa Annabelle Cleeland.
The Lions were defeated by Echuca at Kings Park, with Echuca racking up a 104-point victory, securing its place at the top of the ladder.
August 14
Mandy McCracken, a 39-year-old mother who became wheelchair-bound due to losing her hands and feet from sepsis, inspired the community after founding Get Started Disability, an organisation that ensured individuals who acquired a disability would have access to necessary support.
Round four of the Seymour District Darts Association competition saw the Amigos dominate the Kings, the Pirates triumph over the Kilmore Cobras, and Badass defeat the Golf Club Aces.
August 21
Seymour veteran Jeff Swain spoke to the Telegraph following Vietnam Veterans’ Day. Mr Swain recounted his story of the Vietnam War, looking back to July 1969, where he was “laying in the dirt in the jungle in Vietnam”.
Seymour Lions netballers secured a finals spot with a 25-goal win over Kyabram.
August 28
Seymour primary school students dressed up as their favourite characters to celebrate Book Week, an initiative that encourages young people to engage with literature.
The final round of the Goulburn Valley League saw Seymour finishing in ninth place, with six wins from 18 games and the fifth-best percentage in the league.
September 4
Seymour RSL hosted Hilldene Fire Brigade to celebrate its century of service.
The Lions A-grade netballers suffered a loss against Echuca, bowing out of the Goulburn Valley League netball finals.
September 11
The Seymour Health Protection Group held a petition signing pop-up on Station St to raise its concerns about Seymour Health’s future in light of the Victorian Government’s announcement that forced amalgamations of hospitals across the state were off the table.
Grassroots sporting clubs were given the opportunity to apply for grants of up to $5000 for clubs to improve the skills and knowledge of volunteers, coaches and officials, as a part of the Sporting Club Grants Program.
September 18
Seymour Club worker Sandra Rosario looked back on her traumatising time in Manhattan on the 23rd anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks.
The Seymour Football and Netball Club announced its senior coaches to lead the club in the 2025 season. The club reappointed Ben Davey and welcomed back Casey Adamson.
September 25
Seymour resident Thanh Son Chung graduated from Charles Sturt University with not only a Bachelor of General Studies, but also with the Undergraduate University Medal, an award granted to students who complete course requirements and achieve a grade point average of 6.75 or higher.
Seymour Lions netballers were crowned the premiers of the Goulburn Valley League B-reserve competition.
October 2
The Australian Army conducted the Land Autonomous Systems and Training Demonstration at the Puckapunyal Military area, which showcased new drones, called OWL-B, as well as the Onyx Tactical Sentry System.
The Seymour Lions Football and Netball Club celebrated its most talented players at its awards night. Ellie Fuhrmeister was named the A-grade best-and-fairest netballer, while senior footballer Nathan Beattie took home the same title.
October 9
Born-and-raised Seymour local Dave Sanderson became a short-listed finalist for the Australian Geographic Nature Photographer of the Year.
The Goulburn River Trail parkrun celebrated its first birthday.
October 26
First Seymour Scouts member Evelyn Wylie raised money to fund her trip to Maryborough, Queensland, for the Australian Jamboree this coming January.
Goulburn Valley residents attended the Seymour Cup, with Mark Walker’s horse Midnight Blue winning the $200,000 cup.
October 23
Gnarly Neighbours received the Thrive Community Grant, of $50,000, from Bank of Melbourne to go towards its vision of creating a safe space for kids in Seymour.
The Seymour Blasters claimed wins in each of their double-header match-ups after three unbeaten games in the North East Men Country Basketball League competition.
October 30
Lions Club of Seymour Goulburn member Jill Griffiths was recognised as the club’s longest serving member and was awarded the Lions Clubs International Life Membership Award.
Northwood’s 13-year-old Nate Short claimed both the 85cc and 125cc Northern Regions Motocross titles at the final round in Cobram.
November 6
Troy Michael Melbourne, a 29-year-old motorbike rider from Avenel, pleaded guilty in Shepparton Magistrates’ Court to drink-driving, speeding and driving without a rear L-plate after he was involved in a crash in Avenel while having a blood alcohol level of 0.157.
The Seymour Blasters made their way to the top of the Country Basketball League North East Men’s ladder following a victory against the Mansfield Eagles at Seymour Sports and Aquatic Centre.
November 13
Police found guns at the Seymour home of Chase Hatfield, 33, who pleaded guilty at the Shepparton County Court to possessing a trafficable quantity of firearms and possessing cannabis as well as the drug 1,4-butanediol.
Seymour-owned horse Knight’s Choice won the Melbourne Cup in a photo finish. Knight’s Choice was trained by former local John Symons and is owned by Cameron Bain.
November 20
Students from St Mary’s College won their share of $20,000 worth of prizes in the Circular Champions competition, which invited students across Australia to develop creative ways of reusing plastic bottles.
Royal Lass, trained by Seymour father-son duo Lee and Shannon Hope, won race three at the Seymour Racing Club United Insurance Group Day.
November 27
Popular Seymour event Tastes of the Goulburn was awarded bronze in the Festivals and Events category at the Victorian Tourism Awards.
Essendon Bombers star Sam Durham was announced as the number one ticket holder of the Seymour Running Club ahead of the Seymour Gift at Kings Park.
December 4
The Telegraph’s office closed on this day; however, this is far from the end of the Telegraph’s reign. The Telegraph will still be available in print and digitally despite having closed the Seymour office.
The Seymour Racing Club appointed an all-female executive panel for the first time in its history.
December 11
In front of over 150 guests, Hannah Hockley, who grew up in Seymour, was married to Ben Seymour, whom she met on a dating app while she was travelling in London, at the Trawool Estate.
The 2025 Goulburn Valley League fixture was released.
December 18
An anonymous ‘Secret Santa’ paid off all of the over 90 lay-bys at Seymour ToyWorld.
Almost 1000 people attended Kings Park for the Seymour Gift, with over 600 athlete entries having been received. The Seymour Running Club committee celebrated the successful return of the gift for the first time in two decades.
