Ms Walsh succeeds Liz Dillon, who has moved on from the Gift after leading it since its inception.
The Kyabram Gift thanks Ms Dillon for her hard work and dedication to the charity, an initiative that has significantly impacted the lives of many locals.
With a background in nursing, Ms Walsh is ready to lead the committee into the year with some fresh ideas for fundraising and events.
“It is a privilege to take on the role of chair (and) what a wonderful team of dedicated people to be surrounded by,” Ms Walsh said
“I hope to follow in the footsteps of my predecessor Liz and interim chair Andrew (Moore) in continuing the valuable fundraising for our community members dealing with cancer.”
The committee comprises several individuals, including vice chair Andrew Moore, secretary Claudia Moore, treasurer Ray Warren, and members Ruth Green, Helen Heard, Jackie Humphrey, Amelia Carrol, Marcus Angelino, Kirsten Burley, Bec Dicker and Bernie Moore.
The organisation is always looking for more members. Those interested can contact via email.
Since its inception in 2011, the Gift has raised funds for locals diagnosed with cancer.
To date, the local charity has raised more than $800,000 for families, helping to support them through their journey by providing financial assistance with medical bills, travel costs associated with treatment, food, accommodation and funeral expenses.
These funds are often raised through donations and activities the organisation hosts, such as raffles, bus trips, and sports events like the Barefoot Bowls event on March 31 at the Kyabram Lawn Bowls Club.
The Kyabram Gift offers financial assistance and can help with confidential counselling services and accessing alternate means of support.
Locals wishing to access support, or recommend someone they know who may benefit from a small helping hand can contact the Gift via email at thekygift@gmail.com or by calling 0455 535 247.
