Five locals and their dependents took the final step in the journey to become Australian citizens in a citizenship ceremony held at Euroa cinema recently.
Originating from South Africa, United Arab Emirates, Greece, Philippines and Ecuador, the new citizens formally pledged their commitment to Australia in front of family and friends.
Strathbogie Shire Council conducted the ceremony, with Mayor Laura Binks officiating the pledge on behalf of the Australian Department of Home Affairs.
Cr Binks said it was a special ceremony where the new Aussies read their pledge of commitment to Australia.
“We are proud Strathbogie Shire is a culturally diverse municipality and congratulate our residents on becoming Australian citizens,” she said.
“It is fantastic to see the conferees get such joy out of the ceremony, with their loved ones watching on in support.”
They were presented with certificates of Australian Citizenship and a gifted native Australian plant from the council.
The ceremony is a requirement under Australian citizenship law.
