Strathbogie Shire Council Mayor Laura Binks said this week’s events were a way to celebrate National Volunteers Week, which runs until May 22 and is Australia’s largest annual celebration of volunteers.
“To show our appreciation to local volunteers, we are inviting the community to be a part of the National Volunteers Week events across the shire,” Cr Binks said.
“Attendees will be given a movie ticket to the Euroa Community Cinema, which is scheduled to re-open soon, and a thank you card from me acknowledging their significant contribution to their community.”
Cr Binks also discussed the importance of volunteers in maintaining community spirit across Strathbogie Shire.
“There are so many great benefits from taking a few moments out of your week, month or year to put towards making a real impact on the people and world around you,” she said.
“Studies have also shown volunteering makes us healthier and happier as it pushes you to challenge yourself in a supportive environment while making a difference to your community.”
The events will be held on Tuesday, May 17, at Avenel Bowls Club from 11am and Friday, May 20, at Nagambie Bowls Club from 4pm.
Both events will feature performances from the Larks and Ukulele groups.
