Community Recovery Committee chair Neil Beer said organisers saw how the community rallied to help friends, neighbours and strangers recover.
“This was an important opportunity to thank these champions whose support has a significant impact on our recovery,” he said.
Seymour District Historical Society’s Anne Thompson said the highlight of the Community Champions ceremony on October 14 was seeing the awards handed out.
“It showed the way the Seymour community pulled together in the time of an emergency,” she said.
“The awards made visible the strength of the Seymour to pull together.”
The event was held at Seymour’s Recovery Hub, where the historical society has prepared a photographic timeline and a video of Seymour’s significant floods.
Mayor Fiona Stevens said Seymour residents saw the true character of the community in the face of adversity.
“The many community champions were there to lend a helping hand, and we will always be grateful for their support,” she said.
She also thanked the Community Recovery Committee for organising the Community Champions Recognition Program.
