Colourful and native plants are improving views for patients in Seymour.

A fundraising initiative by the Lions Club of Seymour has helped create a garden for Seymour Health’s dialysis unit.
Associate nurse unit manager Meika Rodwell said the garden came about after the Lions Club put on a charity event called China and lace.
“They raised just over $1500, which they donated to the dialysis unit,” Ms Rodwell said.
“They wanted the money to be spent on something for the patients, and our garden had been looking really ordinary for quite some time.”
Ms Rodwell said she approached Seymour Garden Centre for assistance in designing the new garden.
“Some of these patients are spending five to six hours here three times a week,” she said.
“And we wanted to give them something nice to look out over.”

Ms Rodwell said that not being a gardener herself, the advice from the garden centre was vital.
“They gave me some advice on which plants would be appropriate for the area,” she said.
“And once it was all ready, they sent somebody down to get it all set up, which was amazing.
“We’ve got lots of native plants, which we’re hoping will bring in birds and butterflies.
“And different coloured flowers that flower at different times of the year.
“The garden will also provide a bit of privacy from the footpath on the other side of the fence.”
Ms Rodwell said a town such as Seymour could not survive without the work of local volunteers and service groups.
“I’d like to thank the Lions Club,” she said.
“Thank you to the Seymour Garden Centre, Mawson’s for donating the rocks, and to everyone who donated.”
