Police spoke to a driver of a motor vehicle who was travelling south along Benalla-Yarrawonga Rd, Lake Rowan around 12.30pm on Saturday, March 2 when at the intersection of Wangaratta Rd, a tree limb has broken away and struck his vehicle connecting to the drivers front bonnet windscreen and passenger side causing passenger curtain airbags to deploy.
The driver of the vehicle was extremely lucky with nil injuries.
This is a timely reminder to drivers how quickly and easily falling tree limbs can occur.
Two drug and drink drivers in one day
Police intercepted a vehicle leaving the carpark of a licensed premises in Orr Street at 1.40am on Sunday, March 3.
The driver, a 27 year old Yarrawonga male, appeared to be attempting to avoid police.
When intercepted, three males quickly decamped from the vehicle however the driver was quickly identified and he furnished a positive Preliminary Breath Test.
He then furnished a breath alcohol level of 0.090 at the Yarrawonga Police Station. The driver was issued with an Infringement Notice and his drivers license will be suspended for a period of six months in 28 days time.
On the same day, police intercepted (at a PBT site) a 43 year old Bundoora male driving in excess of the prescribed breath alcohol level at 8am. He accompanied police to Yarrawonga police station where he furnished a sample of 0.066. The male was issued an Infringement Notice and his license will be suspended three months.
Police intercepted a 38-year-old Yarrawonga male driving on the Yarrawonga-Benalla Road at 5pm on Sunday, March 3 where he returned a positive Oral Fluid Test. His passenger also a 38 year old Yarrawonga male had an outstanding Warrant to Arrest and Whereabouts.
Both males were transported to the police station for processing. The driver received a driving ban and will be summons to attend court for drive with more than the prescribed concentration of Drug in an Oral Fluid.
On the same day police intercepted a 42 year old Wahgunyah male driving on Telford St, Yarrawonga where the driver furnished a positive preliminary oral fluid test and was also found to be in possession of two small bags of Cannabis.
He was arrested and conveyed to the Yarrawonga police station for processing. The accused was interviewed and released pending summons for cannabis possession and drug driving.
Police said these results are extremely disappointing, but a timely reminder to locals that Yarrawonga Police are out and about detecting those who are putting other road users and themselves at risk.
Alcohol and drugs remains a leading factor in trauma on our roads.
Bunnings theft
On March 7 at 3.30pm a 52 year old Yarrawonga male was arrested and charged with a theft which occurred at Bunnings on February 5.
No helmet leads to drug detection
Police spoke to a 51 year old Yarrawonga male on a pushbike who was not wearing a securely fitted helmet at 1.30pm on March 9. The male was searched and found to be in possession of zip lock bags containing Cannabis and Methyl amphetamines. He was subsequently arrested charged and bailed to appear at Cobram Magistrates Court on June 12.
Operation ARID
Victoria Police conducted a statewide road policing operation over the Labour Day long weekend where police were highly visible and enforcing to reduce road trauma, with a focus on major arterials and rural roads.
Yarrawonga and Tungamah Police conducted over 450 PBTS at testing sites and were happy to announce nil drink or drug drivers were intercepted over the weekend.
A number of penalty notices were issued though for Exceeding the Speed Limit with a high percentage of the drivers being non-locals.
