Firearms storage
For those of you who own firearms, whether you are a farmer, or a hunter please ensure your storage safes comply with the new rules.
On August 30, 2022, the rules for the storage of some categories of firearms were updated. Firearms must be stored in a purpose-built steel storage receptacle.
- The steel must be of a thickness of at least 1.6mm;
- If the receptacle weighs less than 150kg when it is empty it must be bolted to the structure of the premises; and
- The receptacle must be locked with a lock of sturdy construction when the firearm is stored in it.
More information about the changes and how they affect you can be found at police.vic.gov.au/firearms or from your local Victoria Police firearms officer.
