The recommendation suggests closing pools in Colbinabbin, Lockington, Rushworth, Stanhope and Tongala following the end of the 2021-22 outdoor pool season, with Kyabram and Rochester pools to follow suit at the end of the 2024-25 pool season.
The Echuca War Memorial Aquatic Centre will remain open.
The recommendation is laid out in the agenda for the Campaspe Shire Council meeting to be held on Wednesday, January 19, where it is set to be voted on by councillors.
Within the agenda, the council states the closures are aided by “the extensive repair costs and capital infrastructure requirements to make the pools ‘fit for purpose’.”
The recommendation follows on from a 2016 proposal to close pools in Lockington, Tongala, Stanhope and Colbinabbin, a decision met with much pushback from the community and surrounds.
Community groups and residents across the Campaspe region have expressed concern and frustration over the recommendation, lobbying for the facilities to stay in use.
