A fabulous night of music and dancing with Damon Smith’s ‘Piano Palooza’ hosted by Arts for All Inc. And the Cobram River Rockers will set the house rocking with a wonderful night at Cobram Civic Centre.

A light supper will be provided, and you are asked to please bring your own drinks.
It is also suggested you wear your dancing shoes and if you are a rock ’n’ roll fan. It’s bound to be a big night on the dance floor.
High tea fundraiser
Thursday, October 17 at 2pm
A high tea fundraiser by innovative group Tocumwal Optimists is to be held at the Murray Border Flying Club, Burma Rd, Tocumwal.
A welcome glass of bubbles will be offered on arrival and guests will delight in the fabulous selection of sumptuous home-baked delights to go with it!
A fascinating guest speaker is local pilot, author and photographer Kathy Mexted.

Card and games day

A popular fundraiser organised by Cobram District Health Ladies Auxillary will be held at the Barooga Sports Bowls Club, Snell Rd, Barooga.
Do go along for a highly enjoyable day playing cards and board games in a warm and friendly environment while supporting your local hospital.
A delicious lunch and afternoon tea will be served and there will be heaps of raffle prizes, a lucky door prize and a trading table.

Cobram Agricultural Show
Saturday and Sunday, October 26 and 27 — 9am to 4pm
Cobram’s two-day agricultural show looks to have the best line-up of exhibits and country talent seen for a great many years at Cobram Showgrounds and there will be heaps of activities and fun to entertain the entire family.
Visitors can see beef and dairy cattle, along with horse events including showjumping, dressage and pony club. There will also be sheep, poultry and dog shows, together with considerable entries in the pavilion of home-made produce such as jams and preserves, alongside home-grown vegetables and floral arrangements. There are many categories in the cookery section, too, including those for children. Art and photography always attracts a swell of entries.
Sure to be popular will be a show and shine for trucks and the Cobram Festival of Wheels, with a variety of categories including classic and sports cars as well as motorcycles.
Also, a Young Farmer’s Challenge for young rural folk aged between 18 and 35, with teams comprising males and females, should create interesting competition. On Sunday, the popular Grand Parade will be held and begins at 2.15pm.
Bring the family along for a day to remember!
Fashion show
Monday, October 28 from noon
A spring fashion show presented by Ida Jane Fashions and Can Assist — Tocumwal.
The ever-popular glass of bubbles will start the day nicely. Attendees will enjoy a parade of women’s fashions, showcasing the season’s latest designs and colours as models strut the catwalk at the Lions Community Centre (formerly the Tocumwal Bowls Club) at 5 Adams St, Tocumwal.
Tickets are available from Ida Jane at $35 per person, which includes bubbles and a delicious high tea.
Isabel’s got talent
Cobram teenager Isabel French competed at the Melbourne Royal Show in the junior cookery section last month and was awarded a third placing for her boiled fruit cake.
Representing Goulburn Valley Riverina Group, it is not the first time the 13-year-old has brought home a ribbon from the prestigious show, and it appears it will not be her last. Isabel enjoys cooking and baking and regularly enters Cobram and local shows as well as the Melbourne Royal and loves the opportunity to showcase what she can do in the kitchen.
Reminds me of my neighbour Margaret Fulton, who was recognised as Australia’s pioneer in home cooking and who produced several popular and extremely helpful cookbooks. I think all my friends had a Margaret Fulton cookbook, which we all valued.
When I lived in Lower Templestowe as a young mum, Margaret lived at the top of our street. You always knew when she was at home by the delicious smells emanating from her kitchen as she revolutionised home entertaining.
Perhaps Isabel is looking to follow her pathway!

Casey wins gold at Special Olympics
A commitment to training twice a week for months before the recent Special Olympics State Championships paid dividends for Cobram swimmer Casey Petrie when she brought home five medals from five events.
Casey travelled to Echuca each week and worked under Shirley Milgate and with her dive coach Geoff Edwards at the Barooga Indoor Swim Pool to improve her strokes and her start.
Obviously, this paid off for the 40-year-old, as Casey won gold in the 50m freestyle while competing with the Echuca team. Casey also swam the second leg of the 50m freestyle relay and with her Echuca teammates she brought home silver.
Casey had an absolutely magical day in the pool, also winning bronze in the 100m backstroke, 50m backstroke and 100m freestyle, and with a delighted smile stepped up to the podium to receive a medal after each event.
Mum and dad Gwen and Alan Petrie were proudly on hand and cheered her all the way.to the finish line.
Casey is a determined competitor and is justifiably proud of her achievements.
She is now waiting to hear if she has made the Victorian side to compete at the national championships.
Congratulations, Casey, you’re a true champion!
