Replacing the ageing classic fleet travelling from Melbourne to Albury, the new standard gauge, three carriage trains come with USB chargers, bike and luggage racks and shared tables.
They also feature six accessible spaces for people who use mobility aids, with companion seats nearby and purpose-built catering facilities.
A Victorian Government spokesperson said the facilities were designed with passenger feedback in mind.
“The new catering facilities are the first of their kind on a VLocity train,” the spokesperson said.
“We are proud to be delivering these new trains for communities across north-east Victoria.”
The North East Line has also undergone works to prepare for the new trains.
“Thousands of passengers are already enjoying the smoother, more reliable VLocity trains between Melbourne and Albury, and we will soon see the full benefits of the new trains,” the spokesperson said.
It comes after the North East Line was upgraded at the beginning of March to accommodate the new trains.
Coach replacements continued on the line until last week, as drivers underwent training to become familiar with the infrastructure.
Three of the six VLocity trains have been delivered, and the rest will be on the tracks by mid-2022.
They’re part of an 18 train order worth $340 million allocated in the 2019/20 state budget.
