Shepparton Social Sequence Dancing is the new club, with the emphasis on socialising.
Dance instruction will be provided by Gail Cook, who is well known in the regional dance community and specialises in social sequence dancing.
“There appears to be a renewed interest in social sequence dancing and many locals are rocking up to attend popular local dances being held at different venues across the Goulburn and Murray Valley and the wider north-east Victoria,” Ms Cook said.
“Greater Shepparton has always been a bit short on having popular dance venues to attend, and residents have generally had to travel outside of Shepparton to participate in social dances.”
But Ms Cook said that was all about to change now that the new social dancing club was coming to Shepparton.
The focus will be on sequence dancing, but there will be opportunities for line dancing, rock and roll, jive and swing dancing.
“The new vogue and old-time sequence dances are a lot of fun, easy to learn and provide great opportunities to socialise, meet people and keep fit while listening and dancing to popular music and enjoying yourself,” Ms Cook said.
The dance club is also planning to have professional guest instructors and choreographers attend to teach and demonstrate new dances.
The dance group will meet weekly at the Senior Citizens Hall in Welsford St, Shepparton.
There will be two sessions each Wednesday commencing on June 8 — from 1pm to 5pm and from 7pm to 10pm.
“We encourage anyone who is interested in social dancing to attend, especially if you are wanting to learn and participate in partner dancing and enjoy a pleasurable social experience,” Ms Cook said.
“It’s all about having fun and a good time dancing, so just come along and bring your happy face and dancing shoes.”
