It is more than a school, it is a community and a way of life.
Principal Maree Findlay said it was her aim to help the children settle into the school community and build the skills, attitudes and values they would need to fully participate in the rich educational life of school and beyond.
“The social and emotional wellbeing of our students is of vital importance and our programs are planned with this in mind,” Mrs Findlay said.
“Our small classes allow very personalised learning at all levels.
“We work to develop confident and resilient students who are prepared to push themselves to achieve the best of their ability and to try something new.”
In doing this, St Joseph’s aims to provide a context for each child’s natural creativity to emerge.
“We value openness and encourage quality relationships between children, teachers and parents as we attempt to establish and maintain structures that encourage, invite and facilitate involvement,” Mrs Findlay said.
Mrs Findlay said it was the school’s aim is to provide children with the skills to become lifelong learners.
The curriculum was designed to support students develop an openness to truth, a tolerance of different views and an ability to judge critically and become independent thinkers.
Importantly, all staff are keen for children to learn the importance of accepting responsibility for their own behaviour and learning.
Activities and events such as camps, excursions, art shows, sports and interactions with the community such as visiting the aged care home and kindergarten all support the development of our children.
“We hope that St Joseph’s will be characterised by a sense of compassion, inclusiveness, openness and generosity,” Mrs Findlay said.
“We hope our students will go into the world believing that with God’s help they can make a difference and that they leave us with the confidence in their abilities while demonstrating resilience for challenging times.
“With each school year come changes as we endeavour to make St Joseph’s the best it can be. What won’t change though is the warm, welcoming environment which fosters the educational and social growth of the students.”
The school and wider community are excited with the new kindergarten ready to open its doors next year on the school grounds.
The modulars are built and are waiting to be transported to the site.
Once the name of the kindergarten, which will be open to everyone in the community, has been approved, there will be an information evening for interested families.
The level of interest has been amazing and the school can’t wait to welcome the three and four-year-old students and their families.
Prospective parents are invited to visit the school, meet with staff, students and members of the community and view the variety of learning opportunities St Joseph’s can offer your child.
