New boat ramp provides easier access to Lake Nagambie

It is also more affordable to go out on the water after the Victorian Government recently abolished launch and parking fees at all boat ramps across the state.

Strathbogie Shire Mayor Amanda McClaren said the ramp would be a ‘‘game changer’’ for the community and tourism.

‘‘We see the boat ramp as the first domino of tourism infrastructure projects that will contribute to taking the Nagambie Lakes Regatta Centre to the next level as an international water sports centre of excellence,’’ she said.

‘‘The new boat ramp will allow for direct access to the Goulburn River when the lake is closed for events.

‘‘It will better position Nagambie Lakes Regatta Centre to attract and obtain more large-scale events and competitions into the future.

‘‘Nagambie is the home to Go Fish Nagambie, Australia’s richest and largest freshwater fishing competition and outdoor lifestyle festival, which was a huge success this year and brought in more than 2000 fishers and more than 1000 boats.

‘‘It will be fantastic to have our new deep-water boat ramp to assist with catering for the thousands of boats that hit the water over the annual four-day event.

‘‘Fishing and boating is not only a great enjoyment for everyday Australians, it’s fantastic for regional development and our local economy.’’

Cr McClaren thanked the Ryan family for donating the land used at the deep-water boat ramp.
