Nagambie Golf Club

Nagambie held a stableford event in the previous week, where winner of A, B and C grades was Moz Fowler with a strong score of 44 points.

The nine-hole winner was also Fowler with 24 points. Nearest-the-pin on the eighth hole was Maureen King, and on the 13th was Fowler.

The 18-hole balls went to Fowler with 44 points, and Irene Keogh with 43. Nine-hole balls went to Fowler (24 points), and Keogh (21).

Today’s play is a four-ball better-ball stroke event.

Chicken run results from the previous Wednesday’s play saw a stroke competition played on the front nine. Winner was S. Bryant with a 43 (-5.5 = 37.5) nett off the white markers.

Tomorrow’s golf will be a par event to be played on the back nine. Nearest-the-pin will be the 13th hole.

Men’s results

Every dog has its day and that was certainly the case at Nagambie on Sunday with Doug Neville taking home his first monthly medal and possibly his best win since the ‘choke’ of 2008.

Neville was off the leash for most of the round, driving the ball well and holing out with some solid putting to record an impressive 88 (-19 = 69).

After being awarded the Monthly Medal, Doug was like a dog with a bone, no-one was going to dare take it from him.

Runner-up for the medal for a fifth time in his career was Trevor Redfern with 103 (-33 = 70) once again, so unlucky. Redfern was followed by two more nett 70s from Alan Anderson and Tim Baldwin.

Nearest-the-pins went to Terry Clonan on the difficult third, Michael Roberts steered one into the 13th and Alan ‘Angry’ Anderson nailed the 16th.

The pennant team was away at Kialla were it faced Rich River in a must-win contest to stay alive in the season — which it did comprehensively, with a 4.5 to 0.5 win.

The coming week’s golf will be a stroke event as well as the third round of the Summer Cup trophy. On office duty is J. Lodding and in the bar is B. Cassar.

Seymour Golf Club

The heat continues to affect field sizes at Seymour Golf Club, but there were still enough golfers getting out on the course on competition days this week.

On the previous Wednesday, Ricky Rickman dominated the prizes in the women’s stableford competition.

Rickman’s winning score of 31 points meant she also claimed the extra competition of the best odd holes with 17 points.

With only a small number there was only one ball given out and it is no surprise that it also went to Rickman.

Terry Lemon had the best score in the men’s Wednesday competition, winning the day with 37 points.

Nearest-the-pins went to Stormy Tempest on the fourth, Terry Lemon on the sixth, John Hedley on the 12th and John Callaghan on the 17th.

A score of 34 points was needed for a ball.

In the mixed nine holes Stubby Byrnes had a nice score of 20 points to win. The runner-up was Melva Gardner with 17 points and other ball pool recipients were Phil Block and Dawn Leece.

The Friday evening social nine holes was a stroke over the front nine. Gary Wright had the best nett score of 34.5 to claim the win.

Saturday was the final round of the Beale Family Summer Cup and also the Monthly Medal for the men.

The men’s competition had a lot of close finishes, starting with the Summer Cup.

After four rounds, three of which are included in the final score for each player, there was a four-way tie between Greg Pell, David Hamilton, John Hedley and John Mundy who all had a score of 212.

A three-hole play-off left two players who were declared equal winners of the Beale Family Summer Cup for 2019.

Congratulations go to Greg Pell and John Hedley who played consistent golf and held their nerve in the play-off to claim the title.

The Monthly Medal winner was Mick O’Donnell who also won B-grade with the day’s top score of 80 (-11 = 69) on a count-back from Gerard Hard.

A-grade went to Peter Nelson with 78 (-7 = 71) on a count-back from Ian Richardson.

C-grade went to John Hedley who had 89 (-18 = 71). The best scratch score of the day was Mark Corradin with 75.

Nearest-the-pin on the fourth was Dave Pearce, the sixth went to Ian Richardson, the 12th was claimed by Mick O’Donnell and the 17th was won by John Mundy.

The drive and pitch on the eighth went to Rob Petersen and the 15th to Greg Pell. A nett score of 72 was required to get into the ball pool.

Women’s results on Saturday were not as close as the men’s with Paula Britton winning the Beale Family Summer Cup with a total score of 217.

The runner-up was Sharon Cresswell with 221.

Winner of the daily competition was Sharon Cresswell with a score of 93 (-19 = 74). Nearest-the-pin on the 17th went to Sharon Cresswell and the ball pool went to Cresswell and Pam Jarvis with nett 78.

The Friday social nine holes this week is a stableford over holes 7 to 15. On Saturday golfers will finally have a break from stroke as men and the women play stableford.
