Newly-inducted Year 12 students were given the opportunity to organise this event, resulting in several lovely letters of acknowledgement.
Students across all year levels were encouraged to express gratitude for their teachers, with primary school students demonstrating their appreciation with cut-out hearts and pictures.
“We gave a bunch of high school students a piece of paper and said to write a note,” English teacher Lauren Douglas said.
“We actually had some really lovely notes up there.”
These written messages consisted of general thanks, personal messages, and best wishes to departing teachers that were displayed on a ‘media wall’ for everyone to see.
The phrase ‘hats off’ was used to thank teachers for their hard work and dedication.
“It was really nice to know that some students actually stop and have a think,” Miss Douglas said.
“It’s just nice to have the recognition. You get to be reflective of our core values.”
Moama Grammar has previously hosted similar events on this wall such as ‘RUOK Day’ and ‘Do It For Dolly Day’, all of which have since fostered a sense of community.
English teacher Jenna Hildebrand said if you use your words mindfully you can change the way people think.
“There were some that were really funny. Miss Douglas got thanked for wearing stylish jackets, and others were more inspiring and heartfelt,” Ms Hildebrand said.
“Children are amazing. They’re smart, they’re funny, and it’s great to get to work with them.
“It was nice to be recognised for the work that you do because ultimately teachers are in it for their students, but they don’t necessarily recognise that the students also appreciate them.”
