The Mitchell Shire Council election will be held in October, and among the issues and services are sporting and community facilities, civic works and planning, waste management and animal registry.
Due to circumstances created by the COVID-19 pandemic, Victorian Electoral Commission elections are to be conducted through the post, a method promised to safeguard anonymity.
Voting will open at 4 pm on Friday and is compulsory for Australian citizens aged 18 and above who are listed on the state roll. Fines may apply for those who do not oblige.
Electoral commissioner Warwick Gately reminded eligible citizens to cast their vote accordingly.
“Make sure you’re enrolled by the close of roll, which is 4 pm on Friday, August 28,” Mr Gately said.
“As this is a postal election, it’s important to check both your postal and residential addresses are correct so you receive your ballot pack.
“Council makes important decisions about your community facilities, services and local business community, so it’s important to have your say by voting in this election.”
Voting closes at 6 pm on October 23, while November 13 has been circled as the latest date for results to be declared.
For enquiries about becoming a council-enrolled voter, phone Mitchell Shire Council on 5734 6200 by 4 pm on Friday.
