Lightning strikes started two fires in the region on Wednesday, January 15.
CFA District 22 commander Pete Dedman said lightning started small fires at Nagambie and Strathbogie.
Mr Dedman said lightning “blew a tree apart” on the side of a road at Nagambie at 11.15am.
There were two small fires along a paddock fence line that were started by the lightning strikes.
Mr Dedman said firefighters were called after another lightning strike hit a pile of wood in a paddock at Strathbogie.
It burnt the wood and some of the surrounding grass.
Mr Dedman said CFA firefighters would monitor both places over the next couple of days to ensure a fire didn’t start from any smouldering from the lightning strikes.
He also said locals could play a part in fire detection in the days after lightning strikes.
“It would be handy if members of the public could keep an eye out,” he said.
“They are likely not to be smoking for a day or two.”
