Our own Lara O’Callaghan has taken out the Under-13s netball best and fairest award in the Picola and District League.
It is a magnificent achievement and one which should make her proud.
No doubt it has made her family and the club very happy.

Father’s Day came early for many local dads this week, thanks to Mathoura Public School.
They joined the children yesterday for a special breakfast, before checking out the classrooms and having the odd kick of the footy with the youngsters.
The rest of the town’s dads will have to wait until Sunday for their special treats but I’m sure it will be worth the wait.

Sunday will also be a busy day for Mathoura Football and Netball Club.
The club is hosting the Picola and District League’s preliminary finals
Unfortunately Mathoura’s netballers will not be represented in this final, but it has not been for the want of trying.
When time was up for one of the local teams last weekend the scores were even and extra time was required.
Once again the teams were even, and again after a third time on.
In the end, the first team to score two goals was declared the winner.
Sadly it wasn’t Mathoura, but noone can say they didn’t give it their best.
Well done girls, you can hold your heads high.

It will be an early start for our two local firefighters in the morning as they prepare for the Firefighters’ Stair Climb at Melbourne’s Crown Metropol Hotel.
Former local lad Jordan Simpson and his stepfather Dan (Mick) Moylan will compete.
Dressed in full kit and carrying 25kg on their backs, as well as breathing apparatus, they will take on 28 flights of stairs at the hotel.
Jordan will be endeavouring to better his time of six minutes from last year, while Dan will just be wanting to better anything Jordan does.
The lads are not just tackling the stairs for fun and rivalry, they will be raising funds for the 000 Foundation, Peter McCallum Cancer Centre and Lifeline.
To support the duo in their quest, you can go to www.firefighterclimb.org.au/donations/donate and type in the name of the person you wish to support.
Otherwise Kaylene or Lee would happily take your money on their behalf.

Interested people can just turn up on the day and be catered for.

Congratulations to former local, Damon Wilson and his partner Scott Buckley who operate the Coach House Hotel in Deniliquin.
The business is a finalist in the NSW Business Awards’ Murray Riverina Regional Business Awards 2023.
Great going boys, you certainly deserve it.
