Judy reflected on how the business and industry had grown as she prepared to retire after more than 20 years.
Pen and paper and a phone with a cord was the standard when Judy accepted a part-time role with owners Christine and Tony Thomson in 1998.
“I remember arriving in a suit and being very nervous. But I was made to feel at home and part of this family business from day one,” Judy said.
“Everything was done by pen and paper back then. That’s hard to imagine because we do it all via email and text now.
“It’s been very interesting watching the style and taste of customers change through the years. I’ve really enjoyed having regular customers that I’ve learnt what they like so I can help them more.
“Houses have got bigger, and people have shifted away from carpet. Hard floors have become the style of choice, especially for young couples.”
Judy said she was sad to be leaving but would take decades of fond memories with her into retirement.
“We have such a great team here. Christine and Tony built a fantastic group of people and their daughter, Jacqui, continued that when she took over,” she said.
“I love coming to work each day because I get to help customers choose the perfect product for their home and I’m supported by a fantastic group of people.
“I know the business is in great hands and will continue to be the go-to flooring supplier in Seymour and district.
“I’m also thankful for the loyal customers we’ve had through the years. I’ve built a great relationship with local builders.
“They’ve always been a pleasure to deal with and it’s so satisfying to hear how pleased a customer is with the final product.”
Judy and her husband plan to become grey nomads and see Australia when COVID-19 restrictions allow.
But after that they will be back and applying the finishing touches to the home they recently built.
“I love living in the area and I won’t be disappearing. I look forward to seeing and catching up with all the friendly faces around town,” Judy said.
